Q; “Somebody who admired your work enormously was Miles Davis and he always tried to get his piano players to ‘get’ your approach. You never did play with Miles that I’m aware of. Was he just a fan of yours?”

A: Ahmad Jamal: “There was a period in which Cannonball and myself and Miles were talking about doing something, you know, on recordings.”

Interviewer: “It never got to going.”

Ahmad Jamal: “ But what happened, there were too many involvements with the record companies, I think, and the trade off what … who gets this and what contractual thing was. But Miles and I lived two blocks from each other for years. You know, on 77th Street, Miles was staying and I was staying on 75th Street and rare occasions, we saw each other, so the admiration goes beyond those comments yes.”
