Curriculum Correlations

Provincial Curriculum Correlations

In this section you will find detailed lists of music curriculum requirements, by province and by grade, that the material on the Canadian Jazz Archive Online can satisfy.   You will notice that many of the requirements we have identified do not in fact make a specific reference to jazz per se, but are instead more general in scope, leaving it up to individual educators to decide on the particular material that they use to illustrate the various aspects or units of the curriculum.

In this regard, we believe that the Archive can be broadly applied, and should not be restricted only to classrooms where jazz is being taught – rather, the recordings and other material can and should be used to illustrate various aspects of music theory, to launch discussions on historical and cultural context, to encourage critical thinking, and to engender a deeper appreciation for music and an awareness of the influence of Canadian artists.
