DAVID PILTCH (bassist, guitarist, drummer, composer) was born on January 29, 1960 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the youngest of three children whose father, Bernie Piltch, was one of the leading studio and stage players in Toronto from the late ‘40s to the early ‘80s. His older brother Rob is one of Canada's finest guitarists and his sister Susan is also a talented flutist and pianist.

As teenagers during the late seventies, Dave and brother, Rob, could often be heard performing with their father and with some of the many jazz groups playing around the Toronto scene. David became a familiar figure on the bandstand at Toronto jazz club ‘Bourbon Street’, working with name musicians including Chet Baker, Art Pepper, Zoot Sims, Mose Allison, George Coleman, Don Thompson, Ted Moses, and many others. In 1979, he did a stint recording and touring with ‘Blood. Sweat and Tears’, and in 1981, he went to Japan to tour with Chuck Mangione for six months.

In 1983, Piltch began also working extensively in the pop music genre, often performing and recording with vocalists including Mary Margaret O’Hara, k.d. lang, and Holy Cole. It was also in ’83 that he formed the innovative improvisational trio, ‘Strangeness Beauty’. Skilled on both double-bass and bass guitar, he has frequently been featured as a soloist on diverse recordings released by others including Rob Piltch, Kathryn Moses, Reg Schwager, Ian Thomas, Bernie Senensky, Raffi, Ted Moses, Hugh Marsh, Kenny Loggins, and Eminem.
