Dan Fortin

Biography

DAN FORTIN (bass) was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario. He graduated from the University of Toronto’s Jazz Performance Program in 2007.

Since moving to Toronto, Dan has been an active member of the local, national and international music scenes, playing with the likes of Serena Ryder, David Occhipinti, Dave Restivo, July Talk, Florian Hoffner, The LeBoeuf Brothers, Tim Ries, Mike Ruby, Geoff Young, Mike Murley, and Tara Davidson. He also performs regularly with Myriad3, Bernice, STOPTIME, Engine, The Alex Goodman Quintet (2013 Juno nominees), Jessica Stuart Few, Michael Davidson Septet, Harley Card trio, and the Matt Newton Trio. His playing can be heard on over 30 albums.

In 2012, Dan released the recording Tell with the collective trio Miriad 3, which features pianist Chris Donnelly and drummer Ernesto Cervini. The group released their second album, The Where, in June 2014. The album was nominated for a JUNO in 2015.

He is in the process of recording his debut recording as a leader. In addition to performing, Dan also teaches at Humber College in the Community Music Program.
